Publiek ingelig oor hoe jag bewaring bevorder

Lizanne Nel en Boetie Kirchner, onderskeidelik die bestuurders bewaring en jagsake, het grondeienaars in die Koepel Bewarea by Vredefort in die Noord-Vrystaat besoek om te gesels oor die bewaringsuitdagings in die gebied, die vereniging se jagbestemmings databasis, asook moontlike samewerking met SA Jagters. Die bydrae wat verantwoordelike jag tot bewaring lewer, is ook in die kollig geplaas toe Lizanne as gasspreker opgetree het tydens ‘n geleentheid van die Koepel Bewarea wat deur grondeienaars, die pers en lede bygewoon is. Sy het verduidelik hoe verantwoordelike benutting van wild ʼn wesenlike bydrae maak tot bewaring. Inkomste wat uit verantwoordelike jag gegenereer word, dien byvoorbeeld as aansporing om spesies en hul habitatte te bewaar.

Lizanne het met data gedomstreer hoe veral die private sektor, ʼn reuse bydrae gemaak het om ikoniese spesies soos renosters, bontebokke en die Hartmann sebra van uitwissing te red. Sy het benadruk hoe die konsepte van bewaring en verantwoordelike benutting hand aan hand loop. Behalwe vir die enorme bewaringsrol wat veral die private sektor speel, skep die jagbedryf werksgeleenthede in veral landelike gebiede waar dit bydra tot wat die landelike ekonomie en voedselsekuriteit. Daar is egter geleenthede vir verdere ekonomiese groei indien kreatiewe entrepreneurs newe-produkte van die jagbedryf soos bene en velle kan omskep in produkte vir die huis, modebykomstighede, geskenke en aandenkings.
