The Association focuses on continuously promoting the interests of members, the Association, and the wildlife sector across various platforms. In this context, a multisectoral consultation programme with President Cyril Ramaphosa in the North West Province on 7 January 2026 was utilised to raise important issues with the President. Lizanne Nel, Conservation Manager, together with Stephen Palos, Chief Executive Officer of the Confederation of Hunting Associations of South Africa (CHASA), represented the wildlife sector.

Stephen pointed out that the objectives set for the sector during the Phakisa process remain relevant and require continued attention. Lizanne highlighted specific aspects, including recognition of the sector’s economic contribution, improved consultation in the formulation of legislation and policy, the necessity of local and international trade, and the state’s capacity to deliver proper services.

The President responded positively to these inputs and shared his insights on the importance of meaningful public participation in the formulation of legislation and policy. As time was limited, further comments on relevant issues were submitted in writing, which included statistics on the hunting sector.
