Public comment invited on the NBES intention to optimise biodiversity-based business potential

Please note:

The period for comments on the revised draft National Biodiversity Economy Strategy has been extended by a further 14 days until 5 April 2024. The initial deadline for comments was 22 March. “This extension is in recognition of the fact that some stakeholders are requesting more time to comment, and we welcome this interest. The revised draft National Biodiversity Economy Strategy will be discussed broadly at the upcoming Biodiversity Economy and Investment Indaba,” said Minister Barbara Creecy.

The public has only until 22 March 2024 to comment on the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment’s draft National Biodiversity Economy (NBES) Strategy as published in the Government Gazette on 8 March 2024.

The NBES intends to optimise biodiversity-based business potential across various ecosystems to contribute to economic growth, alleviate unemployment and poverty, and promote food security while maintaining ecological integrity.

Contact Mr Khorommbi Matibe at KMatibe@dffe.gov.za for more information or to obtain a copy of the Socio-Economic Impact Assessment Study (SEIAS) on the draft strategy.

Send comments to nbes@dffe.gov.za by 22 March 2024.

Kontak mnr. Khorommbi Matibe by KMatibe@dffe.gov.za vir meer inligting of vir ‘n afskrif van die sosio-ekonomiese impakassesseringstudie (SEIAS) van hierdie konsepstrategie.

Stuur kommentaar aan nbes@dffe.gov.za teen 22 Maart 2024.
