Permits required for the transport of meat from Namibia to SA
The Meat Board of Namibia has reminded the public of the requirements when travelling with meat from Namibia to South Africa for personal use. Meat from cattle, sheep and game to the maximum quantity of 25 kg per person, or biltong to the maximum of 10kg per person may be transported across the border without permits. This is limited to a maximum of four persons per vehicle.
A South African veterinary import permit (obtainable from Veterinary Service at Department of Africulture) and a Namibian veterinary export permit are required when transporting meat exceeding 25 kg per person to a maximum of 250 kg per person.
When transporting beef and mutton exceeding 250 kg into South Africa, a permit from the Namibian Meat Board is also required. This requirement does not apply to game meat.
Please take note that no wild pig meat may be transported between Namibia and South Africa.

Die Vleisraad van Namibië het die publiek herinner aan die vereistes wanneer hulle vleis van Namibië na Suid-Afrika vervoer vir eie verbruik. Vleis van beeste, skape en wild tot ‘n maksimum hoeveelheid van 25 kg per persoon of biltong tot ‘n maksimum van 10 kg per persoon mag sonder permitte oor die grens vervoer word. Die insittendes per voertuig is beperk tot ‘n maksimum van vier persone.
‘n Vleisinvoerpermit (van Dept Landbou se Veterinêre Diens in Suid-Afrika) en ‘n uitvoerpermit uitgereik deur ʼn Namibiese staatsveearts word vereis wanneer meer as 25 kg tot en met 250 kg vleis per persoon vervoer word. Vir die vervoer van meer as 250 kg beesvleis en skaapvleis na Suid-Afrika word ‘n permit van die Namibiese Vleisraad ook vereis. Laasgenoemde is egter nie van toepassing op wildsvleis nie.
Let wel dat geen wildevarkvleis tussen Namibië en Suid-Afrika vervoer mag word nie.
