National Shotgun Championship 2024

The SA Hunters Browning National Shotgun Championship was held on Saturday, 14 September 2024, at the Wattlespring Sports Club. SA Hunters’ Pretoria-East branch hosted the event. The branch’s administrative officers were on duty from 07:00 to assist with the registration of participants. Eighty shottists registered, along with 12 teams from various branches. Participants were invited to the championship based on the 2024 regional ranking.

Dorothy, Charlene, and Angelique from the national office were also present at the distinctive SA Hunters stand.

Ds. Fritz Snyman, chairman of the Pretoria-East branch, and Basie Bergh, president of SA Hunters, welcomed the shottists. Andy Sutton was the chief range officer for the day and refreshed the shooters’ memories on the most important rules. The competition consisted of ten different ranges with a total of 100 clays, presented according to the Combined Pairs rulebook.

Outstanding scores were achieved, with Jacques van Rooy from the Transvaal branch’s winning score of 92 out of 100 clays which earned him the title of National Shotgun Champion. This year, the older generation also participated on equal footing in the classes for Master Men and Super Veteran Women.

Basie Bergh and Boetie Kirchner (Manager: Shotgun Shooting) handled the prize-giving. Inyathi Sporting Supplies was the main sponsor of the day. In addition to prizes for the winners, other participants also received prizes in a lucky draw, which included gift vouchers from Jonssons Workwear.

Although it was a day of intense competition, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, and the atmosphere among participants was congenial, especially when shottists missed the rabbit. The day’s proceedings concluded with a delicious meal prepared by Wattlespring’s staff.
