SA Hunters supports a national survey on cheetah and invited all members and non-members to participate. The results will be shared with the relevant institutions and statutory bodies in the interest of developing strategies to protect and conserve cheetah.
As promised, we provide feedback on the Cheetah survey that SA Hunters supports in collaboration with the Cheetah Trust, University of Stellenbosch and ASHIA.
We have asked members to participate and to report all sightings of cheetah as part of the national cheetah survey. The team has started compiling some of the data to share with all partners, not only to discuss findings but also to obtain guidance on what landowners and provincial authorities require.
With 86 questionnaires received to date, these findings are preliminary and are likely to change somewhat as we cover more ground. We want to make sure that we do not repeat previous mistakes and stay in contact with everyone that is providing information. As always, our findings and arguments with statutory authorities are only as good as the supporting data. Therefore, we thank everyone that contributed to date and request members to continue to participate and tell others about it so we can obtain more valuable input.
