The rules of these competitions and the associated awards are described in the approved policy; and rules for the measurement of trophies for inclusion in the SAHGCA Trophy Register, document as amended from time to time.

Format of Awards

Hunting Trophy of the Year An engraved medal and certificate are awarded annually to senior and junior hunters respectively in recognition of the trophy that achieved the highest percentage compared to the current biggest trophy of that species in the trophy register. The award is made in each of the following four categories for hunting weapons:

  1. Hunting rifle
  2. Hunting bow
  3. Hunting handgun
  4. Muzzle loader

The award is made during the annual congress.

(A maximum of 8 awards are made, except when identical measurements occur, in which instance each entrant will receive a medal and a certificate.)

Champion Hunting Trophy of the Year

The Champion Hunting Trophy of the Year is awarded to one of the hunting trophy category winners above that achieved the highest percentage of the current biggest trophy for that species included in the Trophy Register. A floating trophy is handed ceremoniously to the winners and each receives a miniature trophy to keep. The awards are made at the annual congress.

(Therefore, a maximum of two of these awards are made annually.)

Inter Branch Species Trophy

Species Trophy of the Year

An engraved medal and certificate are award annually for the trophy entry for every species presented for evaluation that measures higher (size or weight) than previously recorded measurements for that species, regardless of the hunting weapon used. The Award is made by the branch at a suitable opportunity.

(There is only one category without any distinction made between seniors, juniors or females.)

Inyathi Hunting Award

This award is made to every member that enters a qualifying new trophy that achieves at least 95% of the current record trophy on condition that only the entry with the highest percentage is being considered. Therefore, members only qualify for one award irrespective of the number of trophies that were entered. There is only one category without any distinction made between seniors, juniors or females.

When a person receives the award for the first time, he/she receives a badge, pin and certificate that display the relevant year. This award is made during the annual Congress.

Any subsequent rewards to the same person in the same category, or when a paid-up member had received the award previously for which he received the relevant pocket badge, he will only receive the relevant pin and certificate at branch level at suitable occasion.
