SA Hunters participated in Mozambique’s Wildlife Economy Conference

Mr Adamo Valy, the President of the Association of Safari Operators of Mozambique (AMOS), highlighted the practical role of safari operators in transforming the sector, including large-scale state concessions such as Coutada 9 and 11.

SA Hunters was invited to participate in the Wildlife Economy Conference in Maputo, Mozambique, aimed at understanding sector challenges and opportunities, and reassessing management models for conservation areas to promote sustainable growth and community benefits. Read the full article here.

The SA Hunters Vulture Heritage Programme

Various branches of SA Hunters have come together in Mafikeng to discuss collaboration in saving vultures as part of the association’s Vulture Heritage Programme. This conservation initiative is designed to protect South Africa’s declining vulture populations by leveraging our member network to address habitat loss, food scarcity, and poisoning threats. Predation Management

SA Hunters attended the latest executive committee meeting of Predation Management South Africa (PMSA) in Gqeberha. PMSA is representative of the National Wool Growers’ Association of South Africa (NWGA), Mohair South Africa (MSA), the National Red Meat Producers’ Organisation (RPO) and Wildlife Ranching SA (WRSA). The SA Hunters and Game Conservation Association is another member of PMSA that is directly affected.

At this meeting, the following key aspects were discussed: contracting of predation management trainers and plans to launch a national research programme on predator abundance, behaviour, and the economic impacts on livestock and wildlife production systems. National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) is updating South Africa’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). This document sets the path for conservation, land use, and wildlife management for the next decade.

SA Hunters, together with communities, NGOs, state agencies and government, contributed to mapping future interventions to secure biodiversity.
