Sightings Now Also on Your iPhone
Members with iPhones can now also contribute to the Sightings initiative, which is part of the SA Hunters Member App, to list their observations of animals. This can make a significant difference in the conservation of rare and shy species and the management of specific species. iPhone users can download the App from the iStore, while Android users can download or update it from the Play Store. The App provides access to comprehensive features, including the Sightings section. Members can also compare their listings with other contributors. PJ Potgieter from Mpungini is at the top of the leaderboard with his 522 observations from October 2024 to September 2025. There are also remarkable observations of the endangered riverine rabbit, which have now been added to the App.
Vulture conservation
Vultures play an indispensable role in efficiently removing organic waste from the environment. This process is essential for human health and the preservation of environmental integrity. However, the survival of these birds is threatened by human factors, including lead and overhead power installations.
