Shooting is our business and business is good!

Competition Rules and Colours at Regional and National Level

The junior shooting competitions create an opportunity for juniors to compete at regional and national level with air rifle and 22 rimfire rifles in different age classes. Regional rankings are created for each one of these competitions on the SA Hunters member administration system. Juniors qualifying for the national competitions participate annually to determine the top shottists in each discipline.

Competition Rules at Regional and National Level

Regional and national junior shooting competitions are hosted every year according to the age groups and shooting exercises as detailed.

Regional and National Colours

Regional and national colours are awarded for the juniors dependent on the qualifying standards set out for the various disciplines.

Other Shooting Competitions open to Juniors

The Junior Shooting disciplines are hosted at regional and national level.

Ideally the shooting development of juniors should start at a young age (5, 6 or 7 years old) with air rifles and progress to 22 rimfire rifles to establish basic marksmanship and safety procedures. For exactly that reason SA Hunters developed a series of shooting exercises for juniors in different age groups with air rifles and 22 rimfire rifles to enable children to develop their shooting skills.

Juniors can also participate in other regional and national shooting competitions provided that:

  • they handle their firearm safely
  • they are experienced and strong enough to complete the exercise without any physical help
  • the firearm is suitable for the junior and is, for example, not too heavy or in some other way unsuitable for the junior and
  • the juniors realise they compete under the same set of rules as the rest of the competitors with no concessions.

Junior classes in other shooting disciplines

Shooting disciplines open to all ages

The competitions of the following shooting disciplines do not have junior classes, but juniors may participate in these competitions subject to the conditions mentioned above regarding their ability to participate on their own.
