GALLAGHER ESTATE, MIDRAND, 26 – 29 APRIL 2018

South African hunters and sport shooters are reminded to diarise 27 – 29 April 2018 for their annual HuntEx fix when the eighth international firearm and outdoor exhibition will be held at the Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand, Gauteng. HuntEx is a phenomenal success story that annually attracts between 35 000 to 40 000 visitors to view closely 400 exhibitions of the latest products and services on offer by the hunting, shooting and outdoor sector.

Although the focus falls on the firearms sector, HuntEx offers something for everyone. It is a popular event for family outings or a group of friends interested in viewing the latest gear, gadgets and camping accessories available for outdoor enthusiasts.

The show provides a one-stop shopping experience for firearm enthusiasts; hunters and hunting outfitters; bow shooters; sport shooters; game breeders; and any outdoor enthusiasts interested in the latest gear and gadgets.

HuntEx2018 focusses on the youth and projects that promotes youth activities. A fundraising programme that benefits the youth, will be launched at HuntEx. It is called Doppies vir die Jeug, which is aimed at giving underprivileged children the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities, basic bush survival skills, firearm safety, shooting skills, responsibly hunting, and processing of game meat. Children that accompany a hunt, will be able to take the meat and other memorabilia (skins, horns) home to their families. Visitors to HuntEx can support this initiative and stand a chance to win prizes worth R400 000. A .416 Rigby rifle is one of the sought-after prizes that can be won.

Help Hunt (Help Jag) is another charity project that is part of a school feeding scheme run by Soldariteit Helpende Hand. It gives hunters the opportunity to hunt an extra animal and donate it to this feeding scheme for underprivileged children. Solidariteit takes responsibility for the processing of the meat. Hunters can visit Solidariteit’s stand at HuntEx to register and participate in this project.

The HuntEx experience
Industry confidence in HuntEx remains high. The interest in exhibition space for the 2018 expo exceeded all previous shows, with 93% of exhibition space being sold by December 2017.

According to Adriaan Woudstra, owner and organiser of HuntEx, the trends in firearm sales are shifting towards tactical sport shooting. International firearm producers are capitalising on this development and regard HuntEx as the best opportunity to introduce their latest designs in tactical firearms and accessories to the South African firearm enthusiasts. Therefore, visitors can look forward to seeing more foreign firearm producers exhibiting under their own brands at HuntEx2018.

Overcrowding at HuntEx has been a challenge at previous shows and caused frustration among exhibitors and visitors. In 2017, the daily visitor traffic was better distributed, which allowed for more quality time spent at exhibitions and better sales in general. For HuntEx2018, the organisers will manage the daily visitor numbers to acceptable levels to prevent congestion around exhibitions.

The HuntEx App that was introduced in 2017, is the ultimate visitor companion for the 2018 show. For 2018, new features allow more flexibility and search options for ardent visitors. The App can be downloaded from the Play Store.

Mr. Clive Aitchison of Maanhaarrand near Rustenburg is the lucky owner of a hunting rifle, accessories and a hunting opportunity that he won in a competition by SA Hunters to raise funds for its court case against the Minister of Police.

Clive, who is not a member of SA Hunters, won a hunting rifle (Howa.308 Win or 6,5 Creedmoor); a Delta rifle bag; an Allan rifle strap; and a Leopold VX-3i 6,5 – 20 X 40 telescope that were sponsored by Sons of Guns, a firearms dealer in Parys.

He also won two packages Titan points; development of suitable loads for the rifle of his choice; and an impala hunting opportunity sponsored by Helber Safaris. The estimated combined value of this prize is R 30 000 which Clive won for his R50 contribution to the Legal Aid Fund of SA Hunters.

SA Hunters has been involved in court action against the Minister of Police since 2016, regarding the relicensing of firearms and other matters related to the Firearms Control Act. The legal fees in this case are high and the competition was launched as a fund-raising effort to cover some of the legal costs.

SA Hunters thanks its members, members of other organisations, and the public that bought tickets in support of its legal fund. A similar competition might be offered again later this year.

WENNER VAN GEWEER IN SA JAGTERS SE GELUKSTREKKING
Mnr.
